After a marvelous Various Voices festival in Brussel,
we are currently on holiday.
But on August 20th the new season starts. So if you might consider joining our choir, click on the button 'Lid worden?' below.

Soorten & Maten* is the first and only gay men's chorus from Twente, the Dutch region around Enschede (NL) next to the German border. Currently the choir has 16 singers, from Enschede, Hengelo, de Lutte, Oldenzaal and Eibergen: 4 high tenors,
4 low tenors, 4 baritones and 4 basses. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings above gay café Stonewall in Enschede.

The repertoire mainly consists of 3- or 4-part songs with piano accompaniment. And it is very diverse: from classical songs for male voice choir to musical and pop.

In 2025 Soorten & Maten turned 10 years old and that was celebrated in a grand way. Undoubtedly the peak of the festivities was the sold-out birthday concert DURVEN DROMEN (Dare to Dream) on April 11th, in theater Concordia in Enschede.
The highlight of our current choir season undoubtedly was the European LHBTQIA-choir festival VARIOUS VOICES, end June in Brussels. Soorten & Maten had three fantastic performances: in the Bozar Art Center, on the stairs of the Montagne des Arts and in a magnificent room of the old Gothic Townhall on the Grand Place.

*) The name Soorten & Maten is a wordplay. Literally translated it means 'Sorts & Sizes'. (Our men come in all sorts and sizes😉). But in Dutch Maten is also 'mates', and 'musical bars'.
